So what is an ovulation test and how does it work. Essentially the purpose of an ovulation test is to help you figure out when you are ovulating. In the commercial market it is often referred to as an ovulation predictor kit.

Many women when trying to get pregnant have the challenge of determining when the best time to get pregnant is. The answer as I am sure you know is when you are ovulating. As you're body prepares to get pregnant every month it goes through a process called ovulation which involves the release of the egg from your ovaries. Once the egg is released it moves down the fallopian tube into your womb.

When in the womb if it becomes fertilized by sperm you will get pregnant, if not, you will have your period. In terms of the actual monthly cycle, in general the average cycle is twenty eight days. Based on this you could assume that you will ovulate every 14 days; however it can vary for multiple reasons. Stress can actually play a role and bring about changes; the process of ovulation is actually triggered by hormones.

The hormones in question are referred to as the FSH hormone, which stands for follicle stimulating hormone. This in essence enables the egg to mature for ovulation. When this is taking place high levels of estrogen are produced. Once this happens another hormone becomes involved which is called LH and that stands for Luteinizing Hormone. As this occurs the mature egg is released.

The ovulation test sets out to predict when all of this is taking place so that you can time your intercourse to correspond with ovulation resulting in fertilization of the egg. Ovulation tests have gotten better over the years and you will find them in your local drug store in the family planning section.
